First comic page and lettering/layout strategies

As expected, pumping out some comic pages will be the easiest part of the project given my prior experience doing them. This first page didn’t take long even though I was hashing out what font, lettering style and layouts to use. I’m very satisfied with this approach as it keeps me from diving too far into video animation, which would be a distraction as this is a card game, not an animation production.

I could decide later to enhance this with voice and music and then display panels as a paced, semi-animated experience (again, something I know very well). But, for now, I want to get the story out and move more quickly into the card game itself.

What is different about this project than my prior work is that the most interesting/active part of the story is the card game. Unlike leaning hard into the action sequences in comic form, all of that will be the game itself and the story writing is the in-between portions that (intend to) drive some character development.

The layout I chose is 1920×1080, which is the 16:9 format that fits for good video and landscape orientations. This allows for the movement into semi-animated as well as supporting most desktop and tablet configurations.

I also went with a subtle green background with a wood texture to represent the Wiccii storyline. When I do the BiiBii one it will be purple and furry and when I do the Ogrii it will be metal and combat style.
