I took some time to explore which project I should focus on. A card game (Attack of the BiiBiis), my older comics with voice and music, or an online adventure game (Boneeaters).
I do feel my card game Attack of the BiiBiis could be a better game than any card game I’ve played. By focusing on what works well, what fails, and what is just missing from card games out there, I think it could really be something. However, it is also a business, not a hobby. To do it right I’d need to put out an expansion every year and have monthly events, and much more. More than I can reasonably do. And I would end up very frustrated if I can only show a glimmer of what I’m envisioning.
And I don’t need to setup yet-another company right now. That instinct I need to tone down. I’ve had some great runs and my current business is still going strong. I think I need to let that driving force for most of my career start to feel completed.
If I decided to retro some of my older adult comics into a PG-13 mode, rebrand, and republish I could fix one of my regrets of that project: that I can’t really just share it to anyone as too many people get offended easily. The stories are great, I had over 100 artists involved in it, and it was given a setback when Apple decided to kill Flash right in the launch of my comics. But, fixing the past doesn’t feel like moving forward, and the work is out there and available to those brave enough… do I really need to prove something, or should I create something new?
So I am back to my online adventure game Boneeaters. I love the concept and if I think on it hard enough, I believe I can make a “realistic “reasonable” plan to make it real. And it does a deeper dive into the topic of leadership – which I find very compelling. So, this is where I landed, Boneeaters it is!
