I spent some time in Reallusion’s Character Creator and iClone software to take some models and tweak them into characters for my Boneeaters story. I took a different approach than in some prior work where I decided to not be nitpicky on my characters and go with sticking closer to stuff I could purchase and modify. This project is more about the story than creating unique art, unlike my comic projects in the past, and I don’t want to get into a big time sink developing models from scratch.
I also used only those two products to do this instead of trying to pull in stuff I had in Daz Studio or Blender. Again, trying to simply things so I can mass produce comic panels as easily as possible. Even though I have a lot of assets in Daz, in particular, I try to use Sunk Cost Fallacy and do what is right regardless of “investment.”
Here are my 4 main human characters: Vanishi (security, no-nonsense, even dangerous), Nathan (zoologist, tree-hugger), Kennedy (biologist, overly responsible), and Orson (biologist, mostly care-free). Even though they are animated in this sample, that is only because I want to have that option in a future state. For now, I still plant to do static comic panels to allow for speed and, again, to focus on the story first.
